But really, can you blame her?

From the local monopoly paper:

Woman reports kidnapping to get car back, police say

CHARLOTTE – A woman faces a criminal charge after police say that she lied about her 6-month-old daughter being abducted to get officers to find her car.

Rachel Latisha Beharry called 911 Monday afternoon and said that her 1983 Chevrolet Caprice had been stolen with her daughter inside, police said. Officers immediately began a frantic search, augmented by search dogs and detectives, Officer Mandy Giannini said.

They found the car about 45 minutes later, but not the baby girl. She turned up at home.

Giannini said officers say they believe that Beharry knew who had her car.

Beharry was charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor. She was released from the Mecklenburg County Jail late Monday on a $500 secured bond.

My local PD is excellent, in my experience. My non-emergency call for a squad car to chase away some pesky skateboarders was anwered in 7 minutes, which is about half the time it take me to get a pizza. However, I can believe that a stolen Caprice would go to the bottom of the stack in Charlotte.
