So a “Henry Stilson” comes along and resurrects my 3 year old mostly humorous but more true post on building a cheap AR from parts and snidely inquires:
I am reminded of the old saw about concealed carry:
Bedwetting liberal: “Why do you even need to carry a gun? How often do people get shot around here anyway?”
Sensible person: “Only once!”
I did not study, build, and learn to use a rifle because I expect to use it every day. I did so in the hope that I may never have to use it for real. If I could make a deal with the devil to trade all of my firearms and appurtenances for the guarantee that my family or friends would never be victims of violence, I would do so in an instant. But in reality, that’s not an option. Living a nonviolent existence means you get to catch the first punch.
Citizens who study the armed lifestyle are often accused of being paranoid, or mall ninjas, or similarly put down. I will never do so. I may question a persons preferences and priorities, but I will never mock a person who seeks to equip himself with the most efficient, lethal, scary looking and cool weaponry legally available to him. It is our birthright and our duty as free citizens.

I don’t learn a martial art so I can beat people up, or because I get into fights regularly, but so I can fight if I have to. Sure, it’s good physical activity as well, but so is a lot of other activities. One does not learn a martial art for the workout alone, and one does not learn to shoot for the Zen quality of putting a round on target.
Mocking (or attempting to mock) people who have learned a self-defense skill seems a bit… airy and inadequate. An admission of something utterly outside their own comprehension.
Another victim-disarmament loser discovered google. Film at 11.
