Despite the fact that I have two, count ’em, two, automobiles in the driveway that are not only paid for, but have never leaked fluids, have never left me stranded, are comfortable and efficient, have never blown up a transmission or required me to spend days wrenching on them, I spent a good portion of my lunch hour last night making eyes at a slightly rusty 1984 GTV6 Maratona 3 states away with an unlisted price that I would not be allowed to buy anyway.

Is there a cure? I damn well hope so, because 7 years of driving sensible cars isn’t it.

For like $5K you can get a barely used CBR or Ninja that will outperform the Alfa all day long.

Just take the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Beginner course first…

The thought had occurred to me, but at 6’7″, I’m physically incompatible with most of the bikes I’d be interested in. Plus there’s that whole “Falling off and getting mangled by an 18 wheeler thing”.

The thing about Alfas is, nobody buys them for outright performance. A clean handling, sprightly car that you can use 9/10ths on the street safely is a lot more fun to me than a road burner like a Corvette or 911 that you can’t take out of 2nd gear without attracting the law.

As a kid growing-up I always wanted a GTV, and down the street was a lovely ’64 Giulietta Spider driven by a gorgeous older brunette. [sigh] It’s hell being thirteen.
As close as I’ve ever gotten was later dating a girl who drove a white, slightly blocky looking, Giulia TI. The girl was about as pretty as the car but they both *handled* great and made great engine noise without slowing down…

You think that’s bad? I occasionally get an odd craving for a Maserati Biturbo.

I hit myself in the kneecap with a meat tenderizer until it goes away.
